NEXT MATCHES- JUNE 12, 2010
There were a total of 23 intrepid souls at the
matches this month. I have to admit I had visions of a little better
turn-out but the weather was a little chilly and the wind coming
from the north made it uncomfortable. I'll attempt a little more
clear communication with the weatherman for next month. Maybe about
15 degrees warmer and no wind. We were able to shoot all 3 matches
this month after getting some rock up to the 200 meter berm area to
allow access to the target beams. Thanks Ed for the efforts there.
I would again like to express my appreciation to those who help with
the set up and tearing down of the targets. Its a lot of work- and
those targets seem to increase in weight at the end of the day. I
got mixed reviews on the new ram rack on the rifle range but I think
the majority feel its an improvement. The "magic" animal was the pig
this month and there were several $5.00 rebates given out over the
course of the day for 10 in a row. It appears the overall scores
were down this month but I believe the wind played a big part when
the bullets often didn't go where the shooter was looking.
There is one point of concern I need to bring up.
This month I had no less than 4 animals damaged by bullet strikes-
all had the foot knocked off. This says maybe some folks are
shooting a little too much powder. There is no clear velocity limit
in our sport and there's no way of knowing which competitors are
damaging the targets but if everyone would revisit the velocity and
energy of their loads I believe we will have less damage. Enough
said there. A point of range safety was brought to mind when one of
our competitors reported he was hit on the arm by a small bullet
fragment which apparently bounced back from the turkey line. He was
not injured and the fragment just barely hit him but it brings to
mind the need for eye protection at all times when on the firing
line. Its not only club policy but just good common sense. Thanks
for you cooperation!
If anyone is interested in going to nationals and
wants to shoot with our group, please get in touch with me so I can
send in a list of names to the silhouette division. Okay, enough
with the narrative. Here are the results. Until next month- stay
well and safe everyone!
